Steve Berthel: A Journey from Pilsners to The Deepest Darkest Ales: A Tasting Tour of Michigan's Best Beers
$19.00

For all the fanfare generated by Michigan's wineries, lovers of high quality micro-brewed beer know that Michigan has a dozen plus brewers rapidly developing world-renown reputations. To be sure, Jolly Pumpkin, Short's, The Livery, Bell's, Arcadia, New Holland, and others have moved far beyond just making respectable beers. We turn to Berthel, the owner/brewmaster of The Livery in Benton Harbor to decipher which of Michigan's brewers are most worthy of our attention. He recently returned from the Michigan Beer Festival where he kept meticulous notes and in this seminar, he will lead a tasting of his favorites.

1. The Livery Silver Queen Lager-A German style Helles lager that is light in color and very crisp in the finish.

2. Arcadia  Whitsun-An American style light wheat ale with a spicy finish.

3. Founders Cerise-A light ale brewed with tart Michigan grown Montmorency cherries

4. Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA-A very highly rated version of the classic North American India Pale Ale with a citusy, bitter finish.

5. Jolly Pumpkin La Roja-A wood barrel aged, sour, Belgian style amber ale.

6. New Holland Dragons Milk-A high alcohol, bourbon barrel aged dark ale.
